HIGH POINT, N.C., March 1, 2016 – High Point University’s School of Education will host more than 800 children and parents for the annual Lego Showcase event, “Come Build With Us,” on April 9 from 1 to 6 p.m.
Registration for the event is open until March 23. You can visit http://www.highpoint.edu/education/legoshowcase/ to learn more and sign up.

Children in preschool through eighth grade will have the opportunity to work with Legos to enhance their understanding of science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). Activities include a competition building contest, a Lego League and other robotic, engineering and design activities. A snack will be served at the event from local food trucks including Zeko’s 2 Go.
Additionally, informational workshops for parents and teachers will help illustrate the value in using Legos to help their children learn essential vocabulary and math skills.
“The mission of this event is to ignite a passion for learning and to spark conversation about the need for creativity and STEM in school,” says Dr. Shirley Disseler, associate professor of education at HPU. “Adding the art of the brick into STEM adds a dimension to learning that provides an opportunity for constructivism for students that helps promote the brain’s natural ability to problem solve.”
