At this conference, students and professors from all over the Southeast had the opportunity to present their research in oral and poster presentations. Two HPU seniors, Tyler Wilson and Maria Trujillo, won awards for outstanding presentations.

Wilson’s oral presentation titled, “Amoxapine:A Novel B-lactamase Inhibitor In Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus,” received the 2016 Student Oral Presentation Award.

“Winning an award like this justifies that the hard work and dedication that I have put into my research project has paid off,” said Wilson. “It shows that what I am doing has a purpose and that other people in the field of microbiology recognize that.”

Trujillo was recognized for her poster presentation titled, “Mapping the Sorting Signals of the Cytoplasmic Domain of Atg27.” She received the 2016 Student Poster Presentation Award.

“HPU has opened so many doors in my undergraduate career and attending this conference was one of them,” said Trujillo. “Being able to do research is a great opportunity. I love that HPU allows me to explore my abilities as a scientist outside of the classroom.”

“Recognition of our students’ work at an outstanding conference like ASB is a huge honor,” says Dr. Patrick Vigueira, assistant professor of biology. “All of our students did a great job.”
