HIGH POINT, N.C., April 20, 2016 – The High Point University family celebrated Earth Day today with local companies and wildlife organizations in the new Alumni Ave. Amphitheatre.
Students enjoyed food from local vendors including Miss Jenny’s Pickles, Big Boss Baker, Carolina Corn Roasters and My Three Sons Gourmet Pimento Cheese.
Companies such as Bixby Honey Farm, Price Nursery and Landscaping Inc., and the N.C. Zoo discussed with students sustainable practices regarding the environment during the event.
“Earth Day brings light to the environment and understanding the idea of sustainability,” said HPU student Austin Baker. “We want to create a lifestyle where we are bettering not only the environment, but ourselves as well. It is great to have companies and vendors come out and show us what we can do to make a difference.”
“It is great to be here at Earth Day and talk about bees and how important they are to the environment,” said Barron Church, beekeeper at Bixby Honey Farm. “A third of the food we eat has to be pollinated, which is something not many people know. It is great to answer the questions from students and have them taste real honey that hasn’t been processed. It is also great for them to see the honey bees up close and see how they live.”
