HIGH POINT, N.C., April 7, 2016 – The Congdon School of Health Sciences at High Point University will host Dr. John Parsons, ATC, director of the NCAA Sport Science Institute, for its Distinguished Lecture Series. Parsons will present “The NCAA Agenda for Student-Athlete Health and Safety” at 5:30 p.m. on April 14 in the David L. Francis Lecture Hall at Earl N. Phillips School of Business. It is open to the public; no tickets are required.
“Dr. Parsons is a nationally known expert on health care policy related to sports medicine and student-athlete safety,” says Dr. Jolene Henning, associate professor and chair of the Department of Athletic Training at HPU. “His research and leadership are having a direct impact on the health and well-being of collegiate student-athletes throughout the nation.”
Parsons, a nationally certified and state licensed athletic trainer, has spent more than two decades studying, practicing and teaching sports medicine and athletic training. He is the director of the NCAA’s Sport Science Institute, a national center of excellence that promotes and develops safety, excellence and wellness in college student-athletes and fosters life-long physical and mental development.
In addition to his day-to-day administrative responsibility, Parsons’ portfolio includes sports medicine, sport injury epidemiology, protective equipment and facility standards, athletic performance, and the safety implications of sport playing rules. He currently serves on the editorial boards for the Journal of Sports Rehabilitation and the Athletic Training Education Journal.
