HPU Announces New Hires

HIGH POINT, N.C., July 7, 2016 – High Point University welcomed 13 new staff members during the month of June. They are as follows:

Justin Waxman, postdoctoral fellow, Department of Physical Therapy at High Point University

Justin Waxman joined the Department of Physical Therapy as a postdoctoral fellow. This is a newly created position at HPU. As the university’s first postdoctoral fellow, Waxman is conducting research full time in the Human Biomechanics and Physiology Laboratory. By focusing on data collection and analysis, manuscript preparation and grant writing, he is helping increase the research productivity of the lab and sharing HPU’s work with the international scientific community. He also is helping advance the university’s commitment to undergraduate research. He will mentor undergraduate research teams while assisting students with laboratory instrumentation, data analysis and preparation for conference presentations. Waxman’s previous experience includes working at Cincinnati SportsMedicine, where he ran training programs for athletes and conducted research. He served as a graduate teaching and research assistant during his master’s and doctoral programs and has taught Clinical Human Anatomy. Waxman holds a bachelor’s degree in sport sciences, a master’s degree in exercise and health studies, and a doctorate in applied neuromechanics.

 

 

Alexie Cline, curriculum specialist, Department of Physical Therapy at High Point University

Alexie Cline joined the Department of Physical Therapy as a curriculum specialist. This is a newly created position at HPU. Cline assists the Director of Curriculum and Outcomes with assessment and modification of HPU’s Doctor of Physical Therapy degree program curriculum. She ensures that the designed curriculum allows for the optimal success of all students working toward the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree. Cline was a high school English teacher for four years, serving as chair of her school’s English department and a member of the Teacher Leader Academy. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English with a certification in secondary education, was a North Carolina Teaching Fellow and is certified by the International Baccalaureate in Literature.

 

Phylise Bartlett, department administrator, School of Pharmacy at High Point University

 

Phylise Bartlett joined the School of Pharmacy as department administrator. This is a newly created position at HPU. In this role, Bartlett plans activities for the School of Pharmacy’s various departments and supports the chairs of basic pharmaceutical sciences and clinical science. She hopes to instill HPU students with a commitment to service and excellence. Bartlett has more than nine years of experience in medical office management. She holds a Bachelor of Science in health administration and is currently working on her Master of Science in executive leadership.

 

 

Shannon McNulty, medical education specialist, Department of Physician Assistant Studies at High Point UniversityShannon McNulty joined the Department of Physician Assistant Studies as a medical education specialist. This is a newly created position at HPU. McNulty works with members of her department to maintain the Master of Physician Assistant Studies program, assisting with the arrangement of course activities, administration of exams and competency evaluation. She will serve as a point of contact for faculty and students throughout the instructional phase of the Physician Assistant Studies program. McNulty has experience as a nutrition educator and has worked as an admissions advisor for a medical school program. She has a Bachelor of Science in applied nutrition.

 

Andrea Overbeck, coordinator of family programs, Office of Institutional Advancement at High Point University

 

Andrea Overbeck joined the Office of Institutional Advancement as coordinator of family programs. This is a newly created position at HPU. In this role, Overbeck enhances the opportunities offered to HPU students by working with families on campus through organizations like the Parents Council and the President’s Leadership Cabinet. She has previous experience working in college student affairs as well as at Lowe’s Companies Inc. corporate headquarters. She has a Bachelor of Arts in communications arts with a minor in speech.

 

Jacey Trice, admissions counselor, Office of Undergraduate Admissions at High Point University

 

Jacey Trice joined the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as an admissions counselor. She works with prospective HPU students, their families and high school guidance counselors. She also represents HPU at college fairs and meets with visitors for campus events. As a recent HPU graduate, Trice hopes to inspire future students by sharing her stories and experiences. She has worked with numerous non-profit organizations and interned with companies such as Live Nation Entertainment. She graduated in May with a Bachelor of Arts in human relations and a minor in non-profit leadership and organization.

 

Nicole Bell, admissions counselor, Office of Undergraduate Admissions at High Point University

 

Nicole Bell joined the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as an admissions counselor. She is responsible for enrolling and assisting new HPU students, helping them with applications, meeting with them on campus visits and answering questions about the university. By guiding them through the admissions process, Bell welcomes these students into the HPU family. She recently graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in creative writing and a Bachelor of Arts in English.

 

Annie Phillips, admissions counselor, Office of Undergraduate Admissions at High Point University

 

Annie Phillips joined the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as an admissions counselor. She is responsible for building relationships with incoming students and their families, traveling within her territory and communicating effectively with the admissions team. She hopes to keep up with the students she works with through the admissions process during their time at HPU. She recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science in communication with a focus in public relations.

 

 

Margeaux Amico, area coordinator, Office of Student Life at High Point UniversityMargeaux Amico joined the Office of Student Life as an area coordinator. She is responsible for supervising the resident director staff in first-year areas on campus, as well as overseeing University Center II. She hopes to be a resource for students and provide them with experiences that will enhance their time at HPU and shape them as productive citizens. Amico has experience as both a resident director and assistant director for Housing and Residence Life, and has chaired multiple student life-related committees in the past 10 years. She has an Associate of Applied Science in interior design, a Bachelor of Science in technology management, and a Master of Science in management as well as a certification in occupancy management.

 

Joshua Schuman, assistant director of Greek Life and resident director, Office of Student Life at High Point University

 

Joshua Schuman joined the Office of Student Life as assistant director of Greek Life and resident director. He serves as an advisor to the Interfraternity Council, manages the Greek Life community and oversees the Greek Village and university-owned houses. He hopes to support students and encourage their development as individuals and leaders. Schuman has spent the past two years working as a graduate hall director and a chapter advisor for his fraternity. He has a Bachelor of Science in organizational communication and Master of Science in education in school counseling student affairs.

 

Alayna Davis, resident director, Office of Student Life at High Point University

 

Alayna Davis joined the Office of Student Life as a resident director. She oversees the residential buildings of North College, cares for the students living in this community and supervises a staff of resident assistants. She hopes to create a safe space for students, acting as a resource for them as well as an example of how to be successful after college. Davis previously worked as an assistant women’s basketball coach, and recently worked at a non-profit organization in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, helping provide after-school and summer programs for teens. She has a Bachelor of Science in natural science with a concentration in life sciences.

 

Austin LaForest, resident director, Office of Student Life at High Point University

 

Austin LaForest joined the Office of Student Life as a resident director. He oversees Finch, Millis and Wilson Halls, creating a safe and productive residential community that encourages student growth and development. He hopes he and his staff of resident assistants will empower students to reach their full potential. Before coming to HPU, LaForest worked as a graduate assistant, resident director and first-year learning community instructor at another university. He has a Bachelor of Science in integrated social studies education as well as a Master of Education in college student personnel.

Nicole Garafola, resident director, Office of Student Life at High Point University

 

 

Nicole Garafola joined the Office of Student Life as a resident director. She is responsible for supervising a staff of resident and office assistants in the Women’s Complex. She hopes to make the HPU environment comfortable and safe for students so they may learn and develop in order to achieve their full potential. Garafola has previous experience working in residential and first-year departments. She has a Bachelor of Arts in biology and psychology.
