HPU Hosts Free Arts Splash Concert

HIGH POINT, N.C., July 6, 2016 – High Point University will host an evening of free music featuring The Collection starting at 6 p.m. on July 17 in the Alumni Avenue Amphitheatre. The concert is part of the Arts Splash summer concert series organized by the High Point Arts Council. It is free and open to the public; tickets are not required.

The Collection is a folk/alternative band from Greensboro led by David Wimbish. According to the group’s website, its songs stem from an awareness of North Carolina’s folk roots and an appreciation of orchestral and world music. The band released its first full-length album, “Ars Moriendi,” featuring more than 25 musicians and wrestling with questions of mortality and spirituality after the loss of dear friends and family.

HPU partners with the High Point Arts Council each year to host one of the performances from the six-concert Arts Splash series. This season’s lineup includes Motown, blues, bluegrass, Latin and folk performances held at various locations throughout High Point during the summer months.

Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets. If there is a threat of rain, call 336-889-ARTS after 4 p.m. on the day of the concert to get the latest update on the event.
