HIGH POINT, N.C., July 14, 2016 – High Point University rising senior Liz Reichart is channeling her passion for the environment and sustainability through her summer internship with Freeport-McMoRan Inc. in New Orleans.
Reichart, a native of Hudson, Ohio, works as the sustainability graphics intern for Freeport-McMoRan, a U.S.-based natural resource company. She examines the company’s oil, gas and mining practices as well as the resulting sustainability initiatives and then creates informational materials for investors.
“What I love most about this internship is that the team isn’t afraid to throw real work my way,” says Reichart.
With her internship, Reichart has spearheaded the design of a professional environmental impact booklet that addresses mining in Indonesia at the world’s largest publicly owned copper and gold mine, an experience she says was invaluable to her as a designer.
She credits her success in her new position to her HPU experiences. She holds leadership positions in both the Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity and Kappa Delta, her sorority. She also served as the Arts and Entertainment editor for HPU’s student newspaper, the Campus Chronicle, gaining valuable experience with content creation and digital layout.
Reichart also credits her opportunity to HPU Career Services as well as her academic advisor, Janis Dougherty, instructor of graphic design. She says Dougherty inspired her with passion for design and instilled in her a willingness to collaborate with others.
With majors in both graphic design and international business, Reichart hopes to someday attend law school and become an environmental lawyer.
“I am a passionate advocate for the environment,” says Reichart. “This internship is a crucial stepping stone to my future aspirations and has taught me more than I could have ever hoped for. I never thought I would find an internship that would be so fulfilling.”
