HIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 5, 2016 – High Point University welcomed eight new staff members during the month of July. They are as follows:

Teresa McGuffin joined the Office of Accounting Services as the accounts payable assistant. This is a newly created position at HPU. McGuffin is responsible for processing the payments to the university’s vendor partners, as well as serving as an administrative assistant to the Executive Vice President and Vice President for Financial Affairs. In her role at HPU, she works on behalf of the students to keep vendor payments running smoothly. She has more than 15 years of experience in accounting and accounts payable, primarily in the non-profit sector. She received her Bachelor of Science in organizational leadership.

David Friedman joined the Office of Information Technology as a computing support analyst. He is responsible for deploying, maintaining and supporting technology across campus, both for individual students and university facilities. He will ensure that technology runs as smoothly as possible for all HPU students. A recent graduate of HPU, Friedman previously interned with the IT office throughout his undergraduate education. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in graphic design with a minor in communications.

Erin Moran joined the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as assistant director for strategic partnerships. Her primary focus is building relationships with school and independent counselors across the nation and throughout the world. She coordinates the Counselor Open House Program as well as events for the National Admissions Advisory Board, a group of counselors from all over the country. She also reviews student applications and meets with prospective students. Moran is excited to use her skills to serve and encourage prospective students and their families. Her career includes work in corporate recruiting, college admissions and teaching. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in theological studies with a minor in English literature.

Erin Stewart joined the Office of Institutional Advancement as the manager of annual giving. She oversees the Phonathon, as well as communications for the annual fund. Through her position, she enhances the opportunities for HPU students by increasing scholarships and university support. Stewart previously worked for more than four years with the United Way of Randolph County as a campaign associate. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English.
Jerry Trew joined the Office of Student Life as the Title IX director. This is a newly created position at HPU. In his role, Trew implements the principles of safety and equality addressed in Title IX. By raising awareness, partnering with members of the community, and providing events for open communication, Trew will join a team of people committed to providing a safe and caring environment at HPU. He is also a faculty member at the North West Association of Title IX Administrators. Trew has practiced, consulted and educated others on legal issues involving equal opportunity and civil rights in the public service sector for more than 30 years. He holds a Bachelor of Science in public administration as well as his Juris Doctor.

Eli Baker joined the Office of Communication as the web content manager. He works with offices throughout campus to increase awareness of how to manage and update their pages on the HPU website. He also creates web content and studies web usage reports to assess overall user experience of the website. Baker’s goal is to enhance the students’ digital experience by creating and maintaining meaningful web content that is both useful and easily accessible. He has previously worked as a freelance web developer and designer and has a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry.

Taylor Coakley joined the Office of Institutional Advancement as the young alumni and student engagement coordinator. She manages the Young Alumni and Student Philanthropy program by working with the Student Alumni Council and Young Alumni Council as an advisor to students and a liaison between young alumni and the Office of Institutional Advancement. She also plans and attends philanthropy events for the program. As a recent graduate of HPU, Coakley is excited to use her student experience to continue serving the HPU community. She graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in human relations and Spanish.

Christopher Winn joined the Office of Student Life as an area coordinator. He oversees and supports the resident director staff in upperclassmen residential areas on campus. He also manages the building operations for the Wanek Center. Through his role, Winn wants to ensure that students are both challenged to think in new perspectives and inspired to pursue their individual passions. He has previously worked in higher education as a college admissions counselor and a resident director. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in United States history, as well as a Master of Education in higher education and student personnel administration.
