Sophomore Interns with Lifestyle Magazines

sophomoreHIGH POINT, N.C., Aug. 12, 2016 – High Point University rising sophomore Olivia Altman is seeing the world of business and branding from all angles this summer through her internship with Unity Media Group in Hoboken, New Jersey.

Altman, a native of Harding, New Jersey, works as the public relations and marketing coordinator for the company, which publishes two magazines, The Digest and Vue. Through her internship, she aids in the process of producing a magazine from start to finish, through advertising, contributing to creative design, planning launch parties, and networking with other companies.

As a political science major, Altman recognizes that she will have many possible career choices after she graduates, and she sees this internship as the chance to gain insight on which of those opportunities she might choose to pursue.

“I have an interest in many fields, and thankfully this internship has given me the chance to explore several of those,” says Altman. “From business and advertising to creative work and writing, this internship has allowed me to connect with a variety of people and see where I might want to go on my career path.”

Altman credits HPU with her grasp of the importance of branding and networking.

“In every class at HPU, I have been challenged to think innovatively and critically,” Altman explains. “At this magazine, there is a constant requirement of innovation and research. The content of the magazine reflects on the brand as a whole, so we have to think of content that would be appealing to clients and consumers, which can be woven into the other aspects of the brand as well. HPU prepared me for innovative thinking about branding and customer engagement.”
