HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 12, 2016 – High Point University senior Alexander Gross, a human relations major and sales and marketing minor from Orlando, Florida, gained valuable experience and a job offer from his internship with Gartner, an information technology sales firm based in Fort Myers.
As a small- and mid-size business account executive intern, Gross met with company executives to learn more about their growth goals and IT strategies. He also participated in weekly role-plays on different parts of the sales cycle and learned about the culture of Gartner.
“It was up to me to take the initiative to actively use my resources and organize my day to effectively call prospects with the most valuable information for them to agree to start a sales cycle,” says Gross.
Upon completion of this internship, Gross was offered a job with the company, which he plans to begin after he graduates in May. He aspires to hold a leadership role and eventually become a chief executive.
“This internship has given me an opportunity to move forward as a full-time employee,” says Gross. “My goal is to move into a management position within 18 months and continue as a vice president within a specific vertical in Gartner.”
Gross is thankful for the support he’s received from marketing professors Larry Quinn and Randy Moser in the Earl N. Phillips School of Business at HPU. Both professors offered advice to help him make the best decision for his future and increased his business and sales skills. Gross also gives credit to Dr. Don Scarborough, officer of planned giving at HPU, who has been his mentor since freshman year.
“Without all of their help, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” says Gross.
