UNC-TV to Air New Episodes of HPU’s ‘Access to Innovators’ Speaker Series

Three Specials Will Feature Prominent Women Leaders

HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 27, 2016 – As part of an ongoing commitment to community enrichment, UNC-TV will air High Point University’s “Access to Innovators” speaker series at 10 p.m. on Thursdays in November and December.

During each program, influential thought leaders, including former Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice, UNC-Chapel Hill Chancellor Dr. Carol Folt, and author Dr. Carol Dweck, join HPU President Nido Qubein in a conversation about achieving success and embracing moments of failure. Each episode was filmed in front of a live audience on the HPU campus and inspired students to move the world forward in positive ways.

The schedule is as follows:carol-folt

10 p.m. on Nov. 3: Dr. Carol Folt, Chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Folt is an internationally recognized scientist, award-winning teacher and the first woman leader in the university’s history. She has already made an impact setting fundraising records, launching the school’s first ever public-private partnership to create an on-campus research center and championing the mission to protect students from sexual assault.

10 p.m. on Nov. 10: Dr. Condoleezza Rice, former Secretary of State

condiFrom January 2005-2009, Rice served as the 66th Secretary of State of the United States, the second woman and first African American woman to hold the post. Rice also served as President George W. Bush’s assistant to the President for national security affairs (National Security Advisor) from January 2001-2005, the first woman to hold the position.

As Secretary of State, Rice championed the idea of “Transformational Diplomacy,” which expanded the number of diplomatic governments throughout the world. She also helped successfully negotiate several agreements in the Middle East. Rice has appeared four times on Time Magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people. She currently serves as a professor at Stanford University and was HPU’s 2016 Commencement Speaker.

carol-dweck10 p.m. on Dec. 8: Dr. Carol Dweck, Stanford University Professor of Psychology and author of “Mindset”

In her breakthrough book “Mindset: The New Psychology of Success,” Dweck tackled questions such as, “Why do smart kids fail?” and “Could praising talent actually inhibit success?” The work is now a New York Times best-seller that Library Journal called “…essential for parents, teachers and coaches.”

Dweck’s book also inspired HPU to select “Growth Mindset” as its Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) theme. Through the QEP, programming and curriculum that fosters a growth mindset will be prevalent across campus.
