HPU Announces December Community Enrichment Series Events

HIGH POINT, N.C., Nov. 18, 2016 – High Point University will host the following events in December as part of the Community Enrichment Series. All of these events are open to the public. Tickets are not required unless otherwise noted.

prayer-breakfast-201546th Annual Community Prayer Breakfast, to be held at 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 2 in the James H. and Jesse E. Millis Athletic and Convocation Center. To register for the event, visit www.highpoint.edu/prayerbreakfast. For 46 consecutive years, High Point University has brought the wider High Point faith community together for the Annual Prayer Breakfast. Each year, the event includes an inspiring message and special music provided by the HPU Chapel Choir, directed by Dr. Elizabeth Doebler. A silent prayer is also held in memory of alumni, members of the university family and the community, as well as other friends who have passed away during the past year. This year’s speaker is Dr. George Bryant Wirth, pastor emeritus of First Presbyterian Church in Atlanta.

 

holiday-choral-concertHoliday Choral Concert, to be held at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 2 and 3 in the Hayworth Fine Arts Center, Pauline Theatre. A limited number of complimentary tickets will be available for the general public by contacting the HPU Campus Concierge at 336-841-4636 or [email protected]. The annual Holiday Choral Concert has become a popular event for the High Point community. This year will feature familiar Christmas carols arranged and orchestrated by Conrad Susa in “A Christmas Garland,” “Fantasia on Christmas Carols” by Ralph Vaughan Williams featuring Dr. Scott MacLeod, baritone, and the timeless masterpiece “Magnifact” by J.S. Bach featuring student soloists. A full orchestra made up of students, faculty and guests will accompany this concert.holiday-symphonic-band-concert

 

 

Holiday Symphonic Band Concert, to be held at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 in the Hayworth Fine Arts Center, Pauline Theatre. The HPU Symphonic Band will present its annual Holiday Concert featuring traditional Christmas carols, multicultural works and holiday favorites. New this year, attendees are encouraged to participate in an “ugly Christmas sweater” contest at the event.

 

nc-symphony-at-hpuNorth Carolina Symphony: Holiday Pops Concert, to be held at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 in the Hayworth Fine Arts Center, Pauline Theatre. A limited number of complimentary tickets will be available for the general public by contacting the HPU Campus Concierge at 336-841-4636 or [email protected]. Holiday Pops is a North Carolina Symphony tradition that is a favorite with audiences around the state each year. The festive concert showcases seasonal favorites, and includes the always popular sing-a-longs. Professional dress required. This performance is supported by the Anne Kerr Walker Community Events Fund at High Point University.

 

community-christmas-celebration-2015Community Christmas Celebration, to be held at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 14-15 on the HPU campus. The community is invited to bring the family and take a stroll down the festive Jane and Gene Kester International Promenade and enjoy complimentary entertainment, hot food, Christmas decorations and more. New this year, the event will include Santa’s Stable Petting Zoo and Polar Express Train Rides. The festivities also include a life-size Nativity scene, photo and gift for children who visit Santa, “falling snow,” North Pole Children’s Playland, arcade games, Holly Jolly Hot Dog Shoppe, hot cocoa and coffee.
