HIGH POINT, N.C., March 30, 2017 – April is Autism Awareness Month, and High Point University’s Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) has planned several activities in recognition of the national Autism Speaks “Light It Up Blue” campaign.

HPU’s CEC is led by special education majors from HPU’s Stout School of Education and consists of majors from across campus who share a common interest in promoting awareness and providing support for individuals with disabilities.

Each year, the group holds numerous events for members of the High Point community, including a series of holiday dances in partnership with High Point Parks and Recreation for the special needs community.

Throughout the month of April, HPU’s Stout School of Education will boast four wreaths made by Guilford County School students with Autism. Members of the CEC will also spend a day inviting all HPU students and faculty to sign the “Light It Up Blue” pledge and learn more about Autism.

Other activities include:

April 3:
Roberts Hall will turn blue in the evening.

April 5: Guest speaker R.V. Kuser will visit campus and speak with HPU students about his journey through life as an individual with Autism. The presentation will take place in the Webb Conference Center on HPU’s campus from 7-9 p.m.

April 9-15: The water in Hayworth Park Amphitheater and the waterfall in HPU’s Wanek Center will be blue.
