Class of 2017 Outcomes: Britt Paul Serves as Special Investigator

With another successful commencement behind us, recent High Point University graduates are preparing to commence prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse of one extraordinary senior from the Class of 2017:

Name: Britt Paul

Hometown: Germantown, Tennessee

Major: Paul graduated with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology on May 6.

Post-graduation plans: Paul joins CACI, an information technology company that provides services in support of national security missions, as a special investigator. She will audit subjects and grant or deny government security clearance to people hoping to secure positions relating to national security or public trust. She conducts face-to-face interviews with the subjects, as well as relevant employers, associates, mental health professionals and law enforcement agencies, in order to evaluate their application. She documents the information and submits a detailed report of investigation to the National Background Investigations Bureau.

How HPU helped you get there: “HPU helped shape me into the person I am today. Lessons I learned at High Point – from time management and organization to building relationships and being a team player – help me succeed in my career.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “I found a valuable mentor in Dr. Bobby Little. He served as my advisor from freshman year to senior year and was a favorite teacher throughout my four years. I remember sitting in his office during our very first meeting and telling him I had no idea what I wanted to do after college. He stuck with me all four years and provided valuable advice, job opportunities, and even offered help with my job search after graduation. Thanks, Dr. Little!”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “One of my most significant experiences at HPU was participating in the Citizens Police Academy through the High Point Police Department. I acted in simulations that mimicked situations police face in the field – like building searches, traffic stops, and weapons handling – at the High Point Police Department training facility. I was able to network with and attend lectures by members of the High Point Police Department in units like narcotics, canine, and crime lab, among others. This was an opportunity unique to High Point University and it really opened my eyes into the career field I’m employed in today.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Never give up! The perfect job will not fall into your lap after graduation. Keep applying to jobs, keep interviewing, and keep networking. When you least expect it, the perfect job will come around.”
