HPU President Nido Qubein Named to Power 100 List

Qubein is recognized as one of North Carolina’s most influential leaders.

HIGH POINT, N.C., Feb. 22, 2018 – High Point University President Nido Qubein has been selected as one of North Carolina’s most influential leaders in the Power 100 NC Leaders list published this week. The list includes CEOs of giant organizations like Bank of America, LabCorp, BB&T and SAS.

The list, published by Business North Carolina, said this about President Qubein:

“Stunning is a fair way to describe his impact as president of High Point University in 13 years tripling its size and building its national reputation. His latest project is to revive the city of High Point with a stadium, hotel, apartments, museum, and conference center downtown … for which he has raised one-hundred million dollars.”

Only five university presidents were included on the Top 100 list: Nido Qubein; Nathan Hatch, president of Wake Forest University; Carol Folt, chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Margaret Spelling, president of the UNC system; and Randy Woodson, chancellor of North Carolina State University.

“The transformation that has taken place since Dr. Qubein accepted our plea to be president in 2005 is amazing,” said Jack Finch, HPU Board of Trustees chairman. “Dr. Qubein recognized the oncoming challenges and changes across the higher education landscape and took action well before many others. His desire was to remind us that we must prepare students not for the world as it was, or even as it is, but for how it is going to be.”

Earlier this week, Qubein was also named the 2017 Distinguished Citizen of the Year by Business High Point – Chamber of Commerce, an award that reflects his leadership at HPU and in the city’s downtown revitalization efforts.
