HIGH POINT, N.C., July 5, 2018 – High Point University’s campus recreation facilities and student housing are among the best in the country, according to College Consensus.
HPU ranked No. 15 out of the 50 Best Campus Recreation Centers for 2018. The list recognizes universities that make student health, community and personal growth a priority. HPU is the only university in North Carolina to be included in this ranking.
In College Consensus’s list of the 35 Best College Dorms, HPU ranked No. 22. Universities included in this ranking were selected for providing extraordinary living facilities that can have transformative effects on students and their college experiences.
These rankings reflect HPU’s commitment to students’ holistic campus experience, which leads to 96 percent of graduates beginning careers or graduate school within six months of earning their degree. The rankings also complement other recognitions the university has received recently. HPU is named in the Princeton Review’s Best 382 Colleges in the Nation, as well as Best Career Services (No. 19), Best-Run Colleges (No. 20), Best College Dorm Rooms (No. 7), a Great School for Communication Majors and a Great School for Business/Finance Majors. U.S. News and World Report recognizes HPU as the No. 1 Best Regional College in the South, No. 1 Most Innovative Regional College in the South, and No. 1 Best Regional College in the South for Undergraduate Teaching.
HPU students are offered a full variety of fitness and recreational activities at the Slane Student Center and through HPU REC, which takes a comprehensive approach to wellness, fellowship and lifelong fitness.
“HPU’s Slane Student Center is a top of the line campus recreation center, with two full-size basketball courts, a modern fitness center and a variety of classes,” the ranking says. “The HPU Outdoor Discovery Center, in turn, includes a serious climbing wall and a challenging ropes course, as well as organizing hiking and adventure trips to the nearby Appalachian Mountains and foothills. It’s a perfect example of the value a campus recreation center can bring to an education.”
HPU offers a unique residential curriculum that includes initiatives to connect students to what they are learning in classes and facilitate a sense of belonging.
“High Point University has won national attention for its ultra-modern, swanky dorms, especially the Wanek Center and the University Center II,” the ranking says. “While HPU has 19 residence halls – being a primarily residential liberal arts college – together these two buildings represent the way forward for student housing.”
