Name: Max Shakun

Hometown: West Hartford, Connecticut

Major: Shakun graduated with a B.S.B.A. in accounting.

Post-graduation plans: Shakun works as an audit associate on the Financial Institutions Group for CliftonLarsonAllen in Dallas, Texas. In this position, Shakun will focus on the audits of small banks and credit unions.

How HPU helped you get there: “My professors at HPU pushed me to do my very best. They constantly checked in on my progress with various assignments and challenged me to solve problems using what I learned in classes. Additionally, they gave me real-world examples and projects that prepared me for life post graduation. Career & Professional Development was there to help me create an excellent resume and cover letter that impressed potential employers as I went through the job search and interview process.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Professor Scott Davis was easily my most impactful mentor at HPU. He constantly challenged us to do better and used his professional experience within the accounting industry to help prepare us for our future careers.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “There was no single moment at HPU that I consider most impactful. Instead, what impacted me greatly was the real-world experience and life skills that I accumulated through my accounting courses.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Never give up. Never give up in anything. Whether it is in a course where you are struggling, or during a internship/job search, never give up.”
