HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 30, 2018 – The spooky songs and costumes were all for a good cause at the annual High Point University “Acatoberfest.”

The university’s three a cappella vocal groups joined together on Oct. 26 to benefit the Greater High Point Food Alliance by hosting the concert and collecting nonperishable food items.
Hosted by the Petal Points, HPU’s all-female group, the concert also featured performances by HPU’s Offbeats and Toccatatones, as well as Elon University’s Rip Chords.
Each group donned themed costumes – from flappers and lumberjacks to ghosts and Jedi – as they took the stage in the Hayworth Fine Arts Center. They performed a variety of audience favorites, including recent hits like The Chainsmokers’ “Paris,” as well as classics like “I Put a Spell on You” and “Superstition.”
More than 120 people came to enjoy the Halloween-themed show. In its fourth year, the concert is becoming one of the annual fall festivities students look forward to on campus.
“Each year we try to create a different theme for this event to get everyone excited for Halloween. It’s becoming a staple event that students look forward to,” said Lexi Sanders, Petal Points president.
“We had a great, supportive crowd this year,” she added. “Hearing them cheer and clap, it’s such a fulfilling experience knowing people enjoy what we’ve worked so hard to create for them. We’re happy to be able to offer this free concert each year with the hope of encouraging others to support a cause much bigger than themselves.”
