HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 1, 2018 – High Point University students volunteered at this year’s 36th annual CROP Hunger Walk and raised more than $1,200 to help end hunger.
Student groups that helped this year’s walk included HPU’s Civitan Club, Circle K, Sigma Nu fraternity and environmental economics students. The money raised will help Open Door Ministries and Church World Service.
“The Crop Hunger Walk is such a big event for Civitan because of how much this matter means locally,” said Mikayla Labbe, co-president of HPU’s Civitan Club. “Getting our fellow students involved in this amazing cause is such a big win for our club.”
Dr. Daniel Hall, HPU’s chair of the economics department, participates with students each year to help them realize the importance of giving back.
“It is always very rewarding to participate in this walk with my High Point University students and my fellow High Point citizens each year,” said Hall. “With funds and awareness raised, we get to help Open Door Ministries help those in High Point. We also get to help Church World Service help those who often have to walk as far as we did just to get potable water. At 36 years, this is a civic event that testifies to the character of High Point.”
