HIGH POINT, N.C., Oct. 30, 2018 – High Point University will present its annual Gunther E. Rothenberg Seminar in Military History from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 3. The event will be held in the Webb Conference Center and is open to the public.
Named for world-renowned military historian Gunther E. Rothenberg, the seminar is a tribute to his scholarship and dedication to the field of military history. The HPU Department of History sponsors the event, which offers a different theme each year and features a host of leading scholars discussing their most recent research and latest interpretations.
This year’s event will feature the theme, “War Through the Ages.” Peter Wilson, Chichele Professor of the History of War at the University of Oxford, and Peter Heather, professor of medieval history at King’s College London, are among the speakers. Wilson is a world-renowned historian on early modern Germany and the military history of Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. Heather is an internationally recognized specialist on the fall of the Roman Empire.
“Both of these speakers have written numerous books, which have received great acclaim,” says Dr. Frederick Schneid, chair of the Department of History at HPU. “It is a fantastic opportunity for our students, the university and the community at large to hear these scholars speak.”
Other speakers include Erica Charters, associate professor in global history and the history of medicine at the University of Oxford, and Clifford Rogers, professor of history at United States Military Academy at West Point.
