HPU Family Gives 600 Stockings to Salvation Army

HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 17, 2018 – First, High Point University’s Student Government Association hosted a Stuff a Stocking packing event. Then they asked the HPU family to help, and they responded.

The HPU family donated 600 stockings to the Salvation Army of High Point’s Stuff a Stocking campaign.

And on Dec. 14, the HPU family loaded 600 stockings into a van outside of HPU’s Slane Center to help the Salvation Army of High Point give children toys and necessities for Christmas. This year, HPU contributed more than 75 percent of the organization’s total need in the city of High Point.

Summer Chandler, HPU’s director of campus engagement and student activities, helped lead HPU’s efforts. She enjoys watching the HPU family come together to fill the stockings.

“It’s always a reminder of how much HPU really does care about our community,” said Chandler. “They’re so excited to give, and to see them come over and pick up a stocking and say, ‘Oh my gosh, I have a girl,’ they’re excited to make sure these children in our community have a great Christmas.”

HPU’s involvement in the Stuff a Stocking campaign has been a tradition for the last eight years.

“We’re so thankful for HPU and all that they do for the Salvation Army,” said Major Beth Sturdivant, commanding officer of the Salvation Army of High Point. “It’s phenomenal to know that those items are going to come from HPU so our families don’t have to stress over that.”
