HIGH POINT, N.C., June 7, 2019 – High Point University welcomed 10 new staff members in April and May. They are as follows:
Dr. Jason Lattier joined HPU as director of the Caine Conservatory. He will curate plant collections and oversee the new 15,000-square-foot conservatory, which is under construction on campus. The Caine Conservatory will include space for students and faculty to conduct botanical research as well as planting displays open to the community. In addition to managing the space and its resources, Lattier will teach classes as a biology faculty member. Before joining HPU, Lattier was a postdoctoral researcher at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C. His experience includes serving as a research assistant and visiting scientist at gardens and conservatories, including Longwood Gardens, the Costa Rican cloud forest and the Royal Horticultural Society in the United Kingdom. He has bachelor’s degrees in horticulture and botany, a master’s degree in horticulture science and a doctorate in horticulture specialized in plant breeding and genetics.
Kaisha McCaffrey joined the Office of Graduate Admissions at HPU as an assistant director of graduate admissions communications and recruitment. She creates communication materials for prospective graduate students and manages inquiry development, applicant development and data reporting within the office. Before joining HPU, McCaffrey was an assistant director in an undergraduate admissions office, where she assisted with event management, internal and external partnerships, marketing materials and data analysis. She has a bachelor’s degree in marketing and is pursuing a Master of Business Administration in organizational development.
Travis Wright joined the Office of Student Success at HPU as a student success coach. He provides academic and transitional support for first- and second-year students in the Nido R. Qubein School of Communication. Before joining HPU, he worked at several universities in roles such as student involvement, leadership development and career coaching. He has a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a Master of Education in higher education.
Rebecca Berger joined the Office of Student Life at HPU as director of Accessibility Resources and Services. She ensures that the learning environment at HPU is accessible for all students and educates the campus community about disability, inclusion and accessibility issues. Her office provides guidance to other departments in offering accommodations for students with disabilities and provides training for faculty and staff. Berger has worked in accessibility services within a higher education setting for almost 17 years. She has experience working with the deaf community, individuals with disabilities, mental health and those in counseling for drugs, alcohol and grief. Berger has a bachelor’s degree in psychology and education and a master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling. She is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor.
Jeffrey Lewallen joined the Office of Student Accounts at HPU as the office coordinator. He supports the office staff in providing students and families with services such as payment plans, dining plans and student health insurance. A 2019 HPU graduate, Lewallen worked with a small business during his time as a student. He has a Bachelor of Arts in education studies.
George Crawford joined the Office of Student Accounts at HPU as student accounts coordinator. He provides services related to tuition, insurance, payment plans, scholarships and college savings accounts and serves as a point of contact for students who have questions about their accounts. Crawford has experience in quality assessment and sales. His prior higher education experience includes working as a residence advisor and residence hall director. He has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in higher education administration and leadership.
Hannah Hagans joined the Office of Student Financial Planning at HPU as a student financial planning counselor. She assists students and families with the financial aid process while maintaining state and federal guidelines. A recent graduate of HPU, Hagans worked in the office previously as a student. She has a Bachelor of Science in psychology.
Tyler Compton joined the Department of Physical Therapy at HPU as a RAISE Fellow. As a fellow in HPU’s Pro Bono Clinic, Compton sees patients from the community and trains students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. He previously worked as a physical therapist in Colorado specializing in orthopedic issues. He also has an interest in working with patients who have persistent pain. Compton has a Bachelor of Science in nutrition and fitness and a Doctor of Physical Therapy.
Nathaniel Flory joined the Office of Student Life at HPU as a resident director. He supervises the R.G. Wanek Center residential community, including managing staff and working to promote a positive and safe environment where students can live, learn and grow. He has previously worked as a graduate resident director. Flory has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and a master’s degree in professional counseling, college student affairs. He is also certified in grant writing.
Lisa Talavera joined the Office of Institutional Advancement at HPU as an advancement officer. She maintains relationships with alumni, parents and friends of the university and encourages them to invest in HPU’s future. She previously served as director of advancement at Caldwell Academy, managing admissions, fundraising and marketing for the school. She has a bachelor’s degree in economics and English.
