HIGH POINT, N.C., June 4, 2019 – High Point University will host an evening of free music featuring West African musicians Diali Cissokho and Kaira Ba at 6:30 p.m. on June 30 at the Cottrell Amphitheater.
The concert is part of the Arts Splash summer concert series organized by the High Point Arts Council. It is free and open to the public. To attend, RSVP by contacting Campus Concierge at 336-841-4636 or firstname.lastname@example.org by June 28.
Diali Cissokho is coming back to the High Point area for the second time this year after performing as a duo for a Third Thursday concert in January. This time, the full band will be on hand to share the music of Senegal and West Africa.
Having grown up playing the kora (West African harp) in Senegal from a long line of griots, or storytellers, Cissokho now lives in Carrboro and has been keeping the music of West Africa alive by continuously performing and educating audiences throughout the East Coast. Diali Cissokho and Kaira Ba wonderfully blend the traditional sounds of the kora with their own twist of electric guitar and lively rhythm section.
HPU partners with the High Point Arts Council each year to host one of the performances in the Arts Splash series. This season’s lineup features concerts in the genres of funk/soul, hip hop, world, indie folk, jazz, indie pop, country blues and Motown/R&B held at various locations across High Point throughout the summer.
Attendees are invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic dinners to the family-friendly concert. In the event of rain, call 336-889-ARTS after 4 p.m. on the concert date for the latest event update.
