How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University helps me with my goals, starting with a challenging learning environment inside the classroom, to the extracurricular opportunities outside the classroom to facilitate a more professional foundation for students. However, what High Point University offers that I find the most effective is the consistent focus on students. Focus not only on studies but the perseverance of students’ goals. HPU enables each student to understand the importance of setting a goal, doing the work and the consistent focus that it takes to achieve your endeavors and exceed them. I cannot thank High Point University enough for implementing the physical and mental components I needed to help me get to where I am today. The Office of Career and Professional Development is the backbone to HPU’s success. This office constantly provides ways for students to get a solid grasp of what they want to do. Whatever you are looking for, the Office of Career and Professional Development is the place to go for advice. I utilized this department by getting my foot in the door and set me up for future success. I used the office to critique my resume, strengthen my weaknesses and solidify my readiness for this type of work.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU is Dr. Doug Hall in the Office of Career and Professional Development. His leadership, professional vision, personality and drive create an atmosphere that motivates students to do more, to achieve greater and to become better. Dr. Hall is the heart of career and professional development and a true asset to the university. Any student that comes to Dr. Hall is bound for greatness as long as they put forth the effort.”

What has your internship experience been like, and how is it preparing you for your future?: “The experience I acquired from the Ocean City Police Department is hard to even put in words. Performing the duties of an officer is a hard experience to find. This department established such a strong law enforcement foundation and let me experience aspects of the job to give me an advantage over my competition. From calls, to assisting a hotel in removing an injured pigeon, I dabbled in so much that I did nothing but enhance my knowledge and passion for law enforcement.”
