Top 10 Reasons You Can’t Miss HPU’s Family Weekend

HPU’s Winter Family Weekend is just around the corner! As families make their way to campus on Feb. 14, HPU prepares to welcome more than 5,000 visitors for a fellowship-filled weekend. With three event-packed days, here are the Top 10 can’t-miss opportunities families can expect:


1 Hear from HPU’s president. In a can’t-miss session, President Nido Qubein will be providing a University Update for all parents on Feb. 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in Hayworth Fine Arts Center’s Pauline Theatre and streaming to the R.G. Wanek Center Cinema. 


2 Get professional headshots with your student. HPU regularly offers students the chance to get headshots done for their LinkedIn profiles, and now you can too! Make sure you and your student don’t pass up this photo op. Feb. 15 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Wanek School of Natural Sciences Lobby. 


3 Looking for Lessons in Leadership? We have a presentation for that. Enjoy a UNC-TV interview taping with President Nido Qubein and Dean Cain, who played Clark Kent/Superman in the TV series Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman on Feb. 15 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Hayworth Fine Arts.


4 Laugh It Up! On Saturday night, take part in a family weekend favorite –watch Charcoal Pony, HPU’s student improv group, as they perform, act out scenes and games based on audience suggestions. Feb. 15  from 7:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Hayworth Fine Arts.


5 One word: Swag. “I don’t like getting free stuff,” said no one ever! Pick up a complimentary registration gift when you check-in at the R.G. Wanek Center.


6 Expand your foodie palate. Enjoy complimentary meals on a campus ranked #1 in the nation for best food. Top that off with a stop at the Extraordinaire Cinema where you can snag popcorn and catch a family film.


7 Take a tour. If you’d like to familiarize yourself more with HPU’s campus and experience what your student sees daily, University Ambassadors will be leading campus walking tours Feb. 14 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Feb. 15 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. starting in the R.G. Wanek Center Lobby. 


8 Hear HPU’s pitch-perfect choir and a capella groups! Take the family to experience extraordinary music at two different concert opportunities. The Choral Concert Feb. 14 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 pm. and the A Capella Concert Feb. 15 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., both in the Hayworth Fine Arts Center.


9 Make family memories with a fun photo opportunity. You can never replicate a moment, but you can capture it through photographs. Stop by for a family photo Feb. 14 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Feb. 15 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the R.G. Wanek Center. For a bonus photo op, take a pit-stop outside the Slane Student Center anytime with your student to grab a selfie in front of the Slane Pop-Up wall! 


10 Be the number one fan. Deck yourself in purple at one of the many sporting events this Family Weekend and join HPU’s Championship Coach Tubby Smith and the Men’s Basketball team as the Panthers take on USC Upstate. Feb. 15  from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in Millis Gym.
