With Commencement just around the corner, future High Point University graduates are already preparing to commence prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse of one extraordinary senior from the Class of 2020:
Name: Jenna Weidner
Hometown: Excelsior, Minnesota
Major: Accounting with a minor in finance
Post-graduation plans: Weidner joins CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA) as an audit associate. She will work specifically with nonprofit and higher education clients. Weidner will use her experience from working for a nonprofit in high school and cannot wait to continue helping and giving back to clients who are passionate about their jobs and helping the community.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU’s faculty pushed me to new heights. They gave me confidence and were always there for discussion or questions. I cannot thank the accounting department enough for how they have prepared me and my classmates to excel in our careers. I used the Office of Career and Professional Development for resume advice and our faculty in the accounting department really helped me with building my resume for accounting specifically.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU was Professor Davis. He was tough and held us to a higher standard. He challenged me more than I expected and helped me grow. He was someone on campus that I could go to to ask questions, get advice about the CPA exam or internships and discuss my future.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “I do not have one specific moment at HPU that was most impactful, but I was so impressed and thankful for how my professors responded to me being an athlete. Because of my rigorous schedule, time management and staying organized became two of my major strengths. I had to prepare for assignments and tests much further in advance and stay on top of everything, which taught me skills that I can implement in my career.”
Advice for underclassmen: “My advice to underclassmen is to enjoy every second of your time at HPU. Enjoy the cafe breakfast with friends and go to 1924 Prime. Enjoy having all your friends only five minutes away, instead of across the country. It goes fast. Take every moment to enjoy college, your friends, your classmates and all the opportunities HPU will create for you.”
