HIGH POINT, N.C., March 12, 2021 – High Point University’s Department of Religion and Philosophy will host the Charles Franklin Finch Lecture Series featuring J. Warren Smith, professor of historical theology at Duke University Divinity School.

The lecture series event will be held at 4:30 p.m. on March 25 and can be watched by clicking here. This year’s event is titled, “Will the Real Great-Souled Man Please Stand Up? Aristotle’s Ideal of Magnanimity in the hands of Austen and Dostoevsky.”

“Dr. Smith is a fantastic lecturer and a wise guide to the Christian tradition,” says Rev. Dr. Christopher Franks, chair of HPU’s Department of Religion and Philosophy. “We are excited that his recent work asks about the shape of a well-lived life. This lecture will appeal to interested people of faith, as well as philosophers and fans of ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and ‘The Brothers Karamazov.’”

The Charles Franklin Finch Lecture Series dates back to 1960 and is a yearly endowed lectureship. The purpose of the series is to foster dialogue and to deepen understanding regarding issues of importance to communities of faith.
