HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 2, 2021 – High Point University welcomed 11 new staff members this month. They are as follows:
Markita Rowe joined HPU as the coordinator of electronic communications in the Office of Institutional Advancement.
Rowe is responsible for the creation and distribution of electronic content that communicates HPU’s engagement to various constituency groups. Before coming to HPU, she helped small business startups with branding identity and implementation of marketing strategies. She earned her bachelor’s degree in graphic communication systems and her master’s degree in technology management.
George Colvin joined Student Financial Planning as a counselor.
George “Mitch” Colvin counsels students and families on all financial planning matters. That includes helping analyze student eligibility for financial aid, grants and scholarships. He most recently worked as a scholarship administrator with Wells Fargo Bank’s Philanthropic Services division in wealth management. Colvin has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and criminology.
Cody Trudell joined HPU as an administrative assistant for Student Accounts.
Trudell is responsible for assisting students and parents both in person and over the phone regarding student accounts. He also provides administrative support to the Student Accounts team by assisting with invoicing and collections and other tasks. Trudell has worked as an administrative assistant as well as a CNC machinist.
Nayasia Coleman is the assistant director of the Center for Community Engagement.
In her role, Coleman is responsible with providing operational and strategic guidance for the Center for Community Engagement. She also is the primary staff member working with the AmeriCorps VISTAs and supports the student-led Volunteer Center. Her goal is to be a catalyst for collaboration across these groups to bring HPU together in service.
She has a wide background in community engagement, including working with military families, communities of color and underserved youth. Coleman has a Bachelor of Science in integrative studies with concentrations in writing and gender and women studies.
John Schoultz is the education liaison for the Doctor of Medical Science Program.
The new program supports Licensed Physician Assistants in obtaining a doctoral degree to expand into a professorial and managerial position. He has worked several years in education teaching science. Schoultz has a Master of Science with a concentration in science education.
Lauren Kowtko joined HPU as a student success coach as a part of Student Success.
Kowtko works with first-year students who are education, criminal justice or psychology majors. The Student Success Coach helps first year students ease into all aspects of college. She has experience working as admissions counselor and then as an academic success counselor. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in public health.
Gregory Keever is a network analyst for the Department of Information Technology.
Keever joined HPU’s Department of Information Technology as a network analyst. He is the primary wireless network engineer and helps with the wireless connectivity across campus. He previously worked for various Cisco Partners over the last 15 years as a wired and wireless solutions engineer. Keever has a bachelor’s and master’s degree, and he is a Cisco Certified Network Professional.
Jonathan Hicks joined the Department of Information Technology as a computing support analyst.
In his role, Hicks assists students, faculty and staff in resolving technical support issues. He also makes sure that all technical services run effectively and any difficulties are addressed immediately. He previously worked for Lenovo Fulfillment Center as a laptop repair technician. Hicks holds a Associate of Applied Sciences degree.
Sarah Duysen joined HPU as the assistant director of athletic communications for general athletics.
She oversees communication for women’s basketball, volleyball and the baseball teams. Duysen previously worked as a student employee at Northwest Missouri State with the marketing and administration departments. She graduated from there in 2020 and worked as a graduate assistant for athletic communications after earning her degree. She is expected to earn her master’s degree this spring.
Amna Hussain joined HPU’s Office of Student Success as the department administrator.
In her role, she ensures all students feel welcomed, oversees daily administrative tasks in the office and provides support to the Student Success Coaches. Before joining HPU, Hussain worked in the hospitality industry for six years. She also has her AAS in hospitality management.
Zachary Oliver joined HPU’s Information Technology Department as a computing support analyst.
Oliver helps provide user support with computer programs, hardware and peripherals. He also helps with general technical support to the HPU community and examines issues with IT software and equipment to develop solutions. Oliver previously worked for Lenovo as a computer repair technician. He earned his associate degree in computer and information science.
