Class of 2022 Outcomes: Gianna Passarelli Pursues Master’s in Medical Sciences

Name: Gianna Passarelli

Hometown: Burlington, New Jersey

Major: Biology with a minor in psychology

Post-graduation plans: Passarelli will be attending the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, Florida, to pursue her master’s degree in medical sciences.

How HPU helped you get there: “HPU helped me figure out my career goals. I came to college undecided on my major and very anxious about not knowing what I wanted to do in my future career. My professors helped me explore the many opportunities in medicine besides medical school. I realized there are many paths I can take that  allow me to pursue my interests.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU was Dr. Heather Ahrens. Without her, I wouldn’t have discovered my passion for pursuing a career in anatomy. Dr. Ahrens was there for me during every step of my journey in college. She assisted me with graduate school applications and conducted research with me for a year. I will forever be grateful for her guidance.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU was meeting my best friends. They were my support system, and I am forever grateful for this university bringing such amazing people into my life.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “I am so grateful I took biology classes in HPU’s Wanek School of Natural Sciences. It is a beautiful environment filled with the newest technology. In labs, I learned many techniques that will be useful in my graduate program.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU taught me to use the resources available. The professors at HPU have impressive academic backgrounds and many connections. I learned that in my life and career, it is important to make connections with people because you never know how they can help you.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Start early! If you want something, only you can make it happen. Use the resources that HPU provides to your advantage from the start. Start applying to internships early. Start talking to professors and networking early. It is never too soon to start.”
