Family Friday Staff Profile: Nicole Frechette

Nicole Frechette has been a member of the HPU family for three years and is the director of creative services in the athletic department. She serves as the point person for all ESPN broadcasts for soccer, basketball, lacrosse, baseball, volleyball and track and field. She also creates videos, photos and graphics for in game and social media for all 16 NCAA teams. She also serves as the staff moderator for the club SportsLink, which gives current students the opportunity to work in front and behind the camera for ESPN broadcasts, including in the Qubein Arena.

How do you contribute to HPU’s mission to ensure every student receives an extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people?

Working with the students of SportsLink allows me the opportunity to provide them with real-world work experience while getting their degree.

How do you help students develop life skills that they will use to achieve lives of success and significance after they graduate from HPU?

We have students working during game days on the field capturing content as our teams host Power 5 opponents. Students also post on different team’s social media accounts to tell the story of our home games. These experiences are rewarding for them professionally because they are learning valuable skills while gaining confidence in a challenging field.

What is a way that you contribute to students’ personal growth outside the classroom?

I am proud of the time that I spend with the students during SportsLink. This is an amazing opportunity to give students real-world experiences. Students are directors, producers and even play-by-play announcers. They develop their skills and find what they want to pursue, so when they graduate they are already on their desired career path.

What are you looking forward to most for this academic year?

I look forward to continuing to tell the stories of our student athletes and capturing more championship moments!

What’s one thing you want students and parents to know about HPU?

HPU is great at giving students the opportunity to have real-world experiences while getting their education. Having students run a majority of our games is something that is not done by many schools, and I am lucky to be a part of it.

What’s one way you generate creativity or productivity?

I love giving students the chance to help with our media days and video shoots. It is a time when they get to know our student athletes in a fun, relaxed atmosphere and contribute creatively to these shoots.

What is your favorite quote?

“’You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.’  – Wayne Gretzky” – Michael Scott

What is your favorite place on campus?

My favorite place on campus is what I like to call “The Tree House.” It’s actually the pressbox up at Vert Stadium. I like to sit up there during the day when I’m searching for creative ideas. Plus, you have a great few of the track and field and get to watch teams practice there.

What do you love most about working at HPU?

I value being able to share stories about our student athletes and capturing championship moments. I try to show a side of the athlete that you may not see on the field or court. Experiencing their successes with them and inviting the audience in to be a part of the moment is what I love about my job!
