HPU graduates are leading prestigious career paths around the world at Fortune 500 companies, international service programs, public school systems, top-tier law, medical and graduate school programs, and many other esteemed organizations thanks to their journey at HPU. Here’s a glimpse at one extraordinary member of the Class of 2023:
Name: Hayley Hill
Hometown: Middletown, Maryland
Major: International relations
Post-graduation plans: Hill joins the New York State Assembly Republican Conference in Albany, New York, as a press coordinator. In this position, she prepares various documents, including press releases, statements and speeches for NYS Assembly Republican members. She works with members from all over the NYS, acting as a bridge between the state government and general public.
How HPU helped you get there:
“If it wasn’t for the experiences that HPU provided, I would not be where I am today. The university encouraged me to get involved as a student and provided many opportunities to connect with influential figures.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU:
“My most impactful mentor at HPU was Dr. Mark Setzler, professor of political sciences and director of the International Relations Program. Since my freshman year, he pushed me to become the best professional and person I could be. He helped me search for fellowships and jobs and assisted me with research projects and essays.”
Most impactful moment at HPU:
“My most impactful moment at HPU was having the opportunity to lead the College Republicans Club on campus. I was worried that I would not be able to get involved in politics in such a small town, but the opportunities and resources HPU provided to help us make a difference was amazing.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success?
“High Point University does an incredible job exposing students to professional buildings, dinners and people. As I enter the world of politics, I can walk into legislative buildings with confidence and my head held high.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success?
“HPU helped shape me into a well-spoken, well-composed individual ready to take on the real world. My professors did their best to simulate a real-world work environment, whether it be independent projects, presentations or just walking into a beautiful building.”
Advice for underclassmen:
“Do not let being declined from jobs and opportunities wound you — there’s no getting around that. Just pick your head back up and apply somewhere else! Also, don’t be afraid to apply for things outside of your exact field of interest. Sometimes you need to start somewhere else to reach your destination!”
