Post-graduation plans: Peterson joins Meredith Ellis Design as an interior design assistant in Dallas, Texas. She works closely with the principal designer and project manager on client proposals, drafting concept boards and participating in the planning of remodels, renovations and new builds.
How HPU helped you get there:
“HPU prepared me to advocate for myself and achieve whatever I set my mind to. HPU allowed me to realize that I can turn my career goals into my reality. I began visiting the Office of Career and Professional Development as a freshman, and they helped me secure internships in my field that led me to landing a job post-graduation.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU:
“My most impactful mentor at HPU was Dr. Jane Nichols, chair and associate professor of interior design. She was always kind and encouraging, and her classes were very insightful. Dr. Nichols helped me realize my strengths and taught me how to make great connections in the industry.”
Most impactful moment at HPU:
“My most impactful moment at HPU was working on my senior capstone project. I worked with a team of fellow interior design students to create a project that applies to my career, and I learned a lot of life lessons along the way. This project set me up for a successful career.”

“HPU encourages students to go above and beyond what is expected of them. HPU students are so successful after graduation because they aren’t afraid to take risks.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success?
“HPU allowed me to become a strong leader and listener, which prepared me for my future. At HPU, I developed a growth mindset that transformed the way I see the world and how I choose to lead within my industry.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation?
“HPU values family and dedication, both of which are necessary when beginning your career. My family is supportive and encouraging, and they are one of the reasons why I have such an incredible job opportunity.”
