Post-graduation plans: Deodato joins Fox Business Network as a Production Assistant at The Big Money Show. Headquartered in New York, the business capital of the world, FBN launched in October 2007 and currently ranks among the top business channels on television. The network is available in nearly 80 million homes in all markets across the United States. Owned by FOX Corporation, FBN is a unit of FOX News Media. As a production assistant, Deodato will cut video and sound and produce graphics under deadline pressure; interact with high-profile talent and book industry-leading guest contributors; pitch story ideas and commit to seeing them through from start to finish; produce guest segments and reporter hits while coordinating with studio and field crews; produce and coordinate content for social media platforms; and much more.

How HPU helped you get there: “Both professors and courses in my undergraduate and graduate school experience at HPU gave me a strong foundation in media, business and television. My professors taught me how to work with a team, manage deadlines and handle different aspects of production. It was a valuable experience that prepared me for my job at Fox Business Network.

Most impactful mentor: During my undergraduate studies for journalism, Ken Medlin, professor of the practice of journalism, was extremely helpful in teaching me the ways of broadcast journalism.

How you utilized Career and Professional Development: “The Office of Career and Professional Development helped me with my resume and helped me land my first internship at FBN, which ultimately helped me land the full-time role I have today.”

Advice to underclassmen: Network, network, network! As a student at High Point University, you are surrounded by extremely talented individuals who can very well be that person who kickstarts your career.
