Major: M.A. in Communication and Business Leadership; Weigand also previously earned his undergraduate degree from HPU in marketing.
Post-graduation plans: Weigand will join Informa in New York, New York, as a digital marketing associate where he will be responsible for overseeing aspects of inbound and outbound marketing campaigns for the technology division. This includes creating copy, tracking insights and developing segments.
How HPU helped you get there:
“HPU helped me develop the skills to connect with professionals and grow my network. I also learned the technical skills needed for this role. I used the Office of Career and Professional Development to ensure that my resume was up to the standard that is expected in the real world. Additionally, I took part in different career events like HPU in the City to make connections that can aid me going forward.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU:
“Dr. Cynthia Hanson, associate professor of marketing, was my most impactful mentor at HPU. While being the president of the American Marketing Association, I was able to learn so much from Dr. Hanson. Applying what I was learning in the classroom to real-life settings greatly assisted in me getting internship opportunities and eventually a full-time job.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success?
“HPU’s environment inspired me not to settle for anything other than what I truly wanted. I had interviews and offers from other companies, but many of them were not what I wanted. I knew that I needed to keep pushing to find the right fit, and after working hard, I was able to find it.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success?
“The ability to make meaningful connections helped me get my role. I noticed a connection of mine worked at Informa, so I reached out for an informational interview. This allowed me to learn more about the company and where I could fit in.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation?
“The core value that I am bringing with me is the idea of a growth mindset. When I am faced with a challenge, I will make sure to keep a positive attitude.”
Advice for underclassmen:
“Utilize the opportunities that HPU offers to students. Speaker events, career fairs and clubs are all ways to help you grow your resume and gain relevant experience that will help you in your future.”
