The annual event during Mother’s Day weekend will include vendors selling plants and pottery.
HIGH POINT, N.C., May 7, 2024 – Community members are invited to learn more about orchids and to treat themselves or their mothers to the colorful blooms and fragrances of an exceptional floral display during the Triad Orchid Society’s annual orchid show on Mother’s Day weekend, to be hosted at High Point University’s Caine Conservatory. The event is free and open to the public.
Members of the Triad Orchid Society will share their passion for orchids and educate others during the event, entitled “The Splendor of Orchids,” at the Butterfly Café on Friday from 1-5 p.m.; and on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The beautiful Caine Conservatory, a 15,000-square-foot facility named after longtime HPU supporters Don and Teresa Caine, will be open for tours. HPU’s mobile lab will also be on site.

Regional orchid societies will exhibit orchids in bloom in a naturalistic setting. Orchids are one of the largest families of flowering plants with more than 25,000 species found worldwide. Many plants in unusual genera and recent hybrids that are not normally found for sale locally can be viewed during the event, which will be an accredited and judged show by the American Orchid Society. Trained and certified volunteer judges from across the East Coast will travel to HPU to judge this show. These judges have completed years of training and make a long-term commitment to serve.
Vendors will sell plants and handmade pottery at the event. There will also be repotting demonstrations given by orchid society members and other educational media presented in Caine Conservatory.
- Saturday at 11 a.m., Will Bottoms will teach, “Orchid Basics for Beginners.”
- Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m., Martha George will demonstrate, “Repotting Orchids Basics.”
- Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m., Chad Greene will demonstrate, “How to Mount Orchids.”
For complimentary parking, please enter campus at the University Parkway entrance. You will be directed to parking in Lot D, next to the Caine Conservatory.
