Post-graduation plans: Isaiah is bringing his skills to JPMorgan Chase in Dallas, Texas, as a Credit Risk Analyst. He will work on financial models to support financing transactions. Isaiah will also be collaborating with deal teams regarding business development strategy, including the identification of potential prospects. In addition to that, he will also prepare marketing materials for use in client meetings, which will cover topics such as financing alternatives, working capital optimization and industry analysis.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU prepared me for the future by allowing me to hone my critical thinking skills, fostering independence and providing a platform for personal growth. Through rigorous academic challenges, I learned to analyze information, solve problems and adapt to situations that have prepared me for the world as it will be. Additionally, college exposed me to a variety of perspectives and experiences, helping you navigate the intricacies of the world beyond academia.”
How you used Career & Professional Development: “I leveraged the mock interview program in the Office of Career & Professional Development. It was extremely beneficial in preparing me to go through the rigorous interview process for an internship.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU was Dr. Jim Wehrley, Associate Professor of Finance. His service and relationship with me went far beyond the call of duty of a university professor. His constant wisdom, guidance and encouragement helped propel me to the person I am today.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “Effective communication, financial literacy, adaptability and time management.”
Advice for underclassmen: “If I could give a couple pieces of advice, I would tell them to invest deeply in faculty mentorship, beyond the relationship I’ve built with Dr. Wehrley, I was able to excel in my internship and feel extremely prepared for the role I’m moving into. Lastly, I would advise students to immerse themselves in the many resources HPU has to offer, from the writing center to the Office of Career and Professional Development, every resource that I’ve interacted with at HPU has helped me to grow as a professional and as a person.”
