Here’s a quick glimpse at one of many impressive outcomes HPU graduates achieve.
Name: Brandon Tuthill, Class of 2024
Hometown: Greensboro, North Carolina
Major: Sport management, minor in sales
Post-graduation plans: Brandon is starting his career as a Corporate Sales and Development Officer at High Point University. As a corporate sales and development officer, he will be responsible for building partnerships with local businesses through sponsorships of annual university events and HPU’s 17 NCAA Division-1 athletic programs. He will also assist in the growth of HPU’s Corporate Donor Annual Giving Program.
How HPU helped you get there: “I am grateful for the opportunity to have joined the Panther Club as a sophomore, where I worked as a game day assistant to the full-time staff, primarily during men’s and women’s basketball games. Additionally, I completed an internship-for-credit course with the Panther Club during my senior year, which was a requirement for my major. I believe these invaluable experiences equipped me with the skills necessary to secure a full-time role with the Panther Club after college. I credit HPU’s commitment to student involvement, along with the faculty and staff’s dedication to providing an extraordinary education through hands-on projects and engaging classroom work and discussions.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Dr. Jennifer Lukow, associate professor of sport management, was the most impactful mentor I had at HPU. During my freshman year, I decided to switch my major to sport management, largely due to how much I enjoyed her Intro to Sport Management course. She is not only an outstanding professor but also an exceptional human being. One of the ways Dr. Lukow shows her care for students is by sharing various internship and job listings she finds. She played a key role in helping me secure my first internship in sports and solidifying my decision to pursue a career in sport management. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of Dr. Lukow and the rest of the faculty in the sport management department!”
How you used Career & Professional Development: “The Office of Career and Professional Development at HPU is truly stellar. They helped me create my first resume and cover letter during my freshman year of college. They are all very kind and genuine people that want HPU students to succeed inside and outside the classroom. I’ve found that their interactive panels have greatly improved my writing, networking skills and perspectives on the business world.”
Advice for underclassmen: “I believe many factors contribute to success, but the key is discovering where your passion lies. Once you find your passion, surround yourself with friends and teachers who inspire you every day. Don’t be afraid to be curious — pursue new opportunities, even if you’re afraid to fail. If you’re interested in a career in sports like I was, start by reaching out to the HPU Athletic Department. No experience is too small, and if you can learn just one thing from each of your classes, internships and clubs over your four years, you’ll feel confident and prepared to enter the business world after graduation.”
