Hometown: Durham, North Carolina

Major: B.A. Entrepreneurship and Sales

Post-graduation plans: Guy began his career as a Business Development Lead for Patent Forecast in Durham, North Carolina. He is responsible for building and maintaining client relationships, preparing sales forecasts and collaborating with various departments to drive sales initiatives. In addition, this role includes overseeing the business development team, developing sales strategies, managing CRM systems and ensuring the achievement of sales targets while fostering customer satisfaction and growth opportunities.

How HPU helped you get there: “HPU helped me get to where I am now because of everything the faculty has taught me, along with all of the other valuable resources like the Office of Career and Professional Development, and entrepreneurship and sales competitions.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Larry Quinn, Chair of the Department of Sales, was my most impactful mentor because I originally had no interest in sales and thought it would be boring. But throughout the four years and having classes with him, he inspired me to look into sales and think about it as a career.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: It’s hard to define one impactful moment but I would say all of the experiential learning experiences that I had.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to my success because it helped set me up for an easier transition into an unexpected leadership role at the company where I’m working.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU helped me develop my networking and communication skills. In my freshman year, I was pretty shy and only spoke to a few close friends, but by the time senior year came, I had become more outgoing and confident.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Use the resources you get at High Point and participate in the competitions, such as the Annual Business Plan Competition or the Elevator Pitch Competition.”
