High Point University invites the community to campus for a variety of free holiday events in December. Families will enjoy the sights and sounds of the holiday season with a magical ride through campus during HPU’s Annual Christmas Drive celebration, which is free and open to the public on the nights of Dec. 20-27.
HIGH POINT, N.C., Dec. 3, 2024 – High Point University invites the community to campus for a variety of free holiday events in December. Some events require complimentary registration as noted below.

Lessons and Carols will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 4, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Hayworth Chapel.
This special candlelight service is the final Chapel service of the fall semester, bringing the community together to remember and retell the Christmas story. The service will feature members of the HPU community reading scripture and music led by the Chapel Choir. The service is based on the traditional Festival of Lessons and Carols from King’s College, Cambridge, England. No tickets are required.
Holiday Choral Concert – MESSIAH will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. at Hayworth Fine Arts Center.
This year’s concert will feature the combined university choirs in a performance of part I of Handel’s MESSIAH. The concert will be accompanied by an orchestra and feature student soloists. The audience will be invited to join in on the closing “Hallelujah Chorus.”

53rd Annual Prayer Breakfast will be held Friday, Dec. 6, at 8 a.m. at the Nido and Mariana Qubein Arena and Conference Center.
For 53 consecutive years, HPU has brought the wider High Point faith community together for the Annual Christmas Prayer Breakfast. This year’s event includes an inspiring message from Rev. Susan Sparks, senior pastor of Madison Avenue Baptist Church in New York City. Music will be provided by Dr. Wintley Phipps, a pastor and world-renowned vocal artist, motivational speaker and education activist. A silent prayer is also held every year in memory of alumni, members of the university family and the community, as well as other friends who have passed away during the past year. Instrumental Holiday Concert – Celebrate the Holidays will be held Sunday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. in the Pauline Theatre at Hayworth Fine Arts Center.
Get into the holiday spirit with performances by HPU’s instrumental ensembles. Featuring the HPU Community Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble and several small instrumental groups, this concert will get you ready for the holidays. Enjoy a cup of hot cocoa on your way out and take a stroll through our beautifully decorated campus to enjoy the sights and sounds of the holiday season. Tickets required. HPU’s Annual Christmas Drive will be held Friday, Dec. 20, through Friday, Dec. 27, from 5-8 p.m. each night.
Families will enjoy the sights and sounds of the holiday season with a magical ride through campus during HPU’s Annual Christmas Drive celebration, which is free and open to the public. Guests will see more than 100,000 Christmas lights, a life-size Nativity, 235 giant nutcrackers, large wreaths and garland, the state’s tallest Christmas tree at 70 feet and more. You can tune into 89.7 FM to enjoy Christmas carols performed by the students and faculty from HPU’s Department of Music. Registration is not required.
