Calvin Byrd Secures Internship at Stryker

Internship plans: Calvin will be working as a downstream marketing intern at Stryker in the Surgical Care division in Chicago, Illinois. His main responsibilities will include participating in key commercialization activities such as developing campaigns, messaging, and positioning. Calvin will also be gaining field experience with sales members and surgeons across the U.S.; gathering customer insights to support the creation and validation of marketing strategies, and utilizing the Big Picture Marketing framework to structure future marketing activities.

How HPU helped you get where you are now: “HPU has been instrumental in my growth by providing real-world experience and focusing on personal and professional development through the business school. The emphasis on applying classroom knowledge to practical scenarios has prepared me for success in my role at Stryker.”

Did you feel HPU prepared you for this type of setting? “Yes, I had over 50 informational interviews with Stryker employees, many of which included coffee meetups or dinners. HPU’s focus on fine dining and professionalism helped me feel confident and comfortable in these scenarios.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “April Cosner, the Business Communication Instructor has been my most impactful mentor at HPU. Her consistent guidance has helped me grow personally and professionally, and she has given me opportunities to share my experiences with her classes, further enhancing my skills.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “One of my most impactful moments was participating in the Two-Minute Drill, where I applied classroom knowledge in a high-pressure scenario. This experience not only boosted my confidence but also refined my communication and presentation skills.”

These skills have prepared me to excel in high-pressure situations and professional environments.”
