Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Austen Coats-Smith the Director of Campus Fitness is my most impactful mentor at HPU. She has believed in me and enabled me to grow in my job as a personal trainer. Together, we created a new leadership position that I now hold as head trainer. She gave me the opportunity to get certified as a personal trainer, which I wouldn’t have gotten anywhere else. She has also inspired me to chase my dreams and pursue the life I want to live.”
How you used Career & Professional Development: “I used the Office of Career and Professional Development to help search and apply for internships.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s inspiring environment has allowed me to have study spaces and places to meet with my peers to brainstorm for class, projects, or even just on our own. Being surrounded by extraordinary people makes you inspired to chase being extraordinary yourself.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “The life skills HPU helped me develop that prepared me for long-term success were interview preparation, confidence, thinking on my feet and problem solving.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “The values and virtues HPU’s campus has helped me develop are the embodiment of being an ethical salesman, treating others how I want to be treated and continuing to practice my faith post-grad.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Apply, apply, apply! Apply to places that you would actually want to work. Always show up, no matter what — showing up can make a huge impact and lead to more and more opportunities. Being active on campus in the area(s) that you’re interested in can also open many doors!”
