How HPU helped you get there: “HPU helped me become a better networker and taught me how to work in teams on big projects, similar to what I will be seeing in my job. Being able to take a leadership role during these types of activities has set me up to work well with coworkers in my job and will help me in any leadership roles later in my career.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU was Professor Davis, Associate Professor of Accounting. I took my first ever accounting class with Professor Davis during my sophomore year and I took three more classes with him during my time at HPU. Professor Davis always pushed me to work hard and challenged me with difficult assignments. Professor Davis knew what I was capable of and did a phenomenal job of getting the best out of me and preparing me for my career as well as the CPA Exam.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment at HPU was being able to create the Accounting Club during my junior year and serve as the Vice President for my last two years at HPU. Having the ability to create and grow the club with some of my friends was a great experience, and I learned so much from running the club, as well as from all the different types of speakers we brought in from all over the accounting industry. Creating the Accounting Club has been one of the accomplishments in my life that I am the most proud of.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU helped me improve my networking skills significantly. I have been able to grow a network through events on campus and with the accounting club, as well as through my internships. These connections have already presented me with numerous job opportunities and will continue to help me throughout my career.”
Advice for underclassmen: “My biggest advice for underclassmen is to take advantage of all the different types of events that HPU offers and work on growing your network through those events. Networking is so important, especially with how competitive the job market is now for college graduates. Having people in your network can help lead to opportunities for employment and will give you an advantage in the job market over other candidates.”
