Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Professor Scott Davis, Associate Professor of Accounting, has been instrumental in helping me stay on track with my career goals by providing invaluable opportunities like the VITA program. Their approach to teaching, which emphasizes real-world applications through deadlines, collaboration and high expectations, has prepared me for the workforce by encouraging me to hold myself to a higher standard. Their mentorship and support have been pivotal in my personal and professional growth at HPU.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “The most impactful moment at HPU was when my professors sent my resume to PwC after I was feeling discouraged during my internship search. Accounting can be challenging, and many students secure internships 1 to 2 years in advance, so I was nearing the end of the summer internship cycle without any luck. However, an HPU alum reached out to my professors, and all three of them forwarded the email to me with my future in mind. Thanks to their recommendation, I was able to secure an internship with PwC, a Big 4 company, which was my ultimate goal as I prepared to graduate with a job. This support was a turning point in my journey at HPU.”

How you used Career & Professional Development: “I utilized High Point University’s Career & Professional Development services to boost my professional growth and career readiness. By attending workshops and career fairs, I gained valuable insights into networking and industry expectations. The team also offered personalized resume reviews and interview coaching, which were key in helping me secure my summer internship with PwC and positioning me for future opportunities in accounting and finance.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU’s inspiring campus has been a major factor in my success by providing an environment that encourages growth, innovation and collaboration. The supportive faculty, vibrant campus culture and focus on professional development have motivated me to excel in both academics and extracurricular activities. With the resources and opportunities HPU offers, along with its commitment to preparing students for the workforce, I’ve been able to stay focused on my goals and make significant progress toward achieving success.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU helped me develop key life skills like leadership, effective communication and adaptability, which are crucial for long-term success. Leading the Black Student Union, chartering the NABA student chapter and being part of the Business Fellows program allowed me to strengthen my ability to collaborate, think strategically and manage multiple responsibilities. The university’s focus on professionalism and hands-on learning boosted my confidence and prepared me to tackle challenges, ensuring I’m well-equipped to achieve my career goals.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “High Point University’s campus instilled values like integrity, inclusivity and a strong commitment to service, which I will carry with me after graduation. My leadership roles in the Black Student Union and NABA taught me the importance of cultural awareness, collaboration and advocating for positive change. HPU’s emphasis on excellence and innovation fostered a growth mindset, motivating me to pursue continuous learning and strive to make a meaningful impact in both my career and the community.”

Advice for underclassmen: “My advice for underclassmen is to never let a “no” stop you from achieving your goals—it may simply mean that the timing isn’t right, but persistence will pay off in the end. Additionally, always participate in class and engage with your professors, as they are watching and can offer valuable support and opportunities later in your journey at HPU. Building relationships and maintaining a strong work ethic will set you up for success long after graduation.”
