HPU to Host Charles Franklin Finch Lecture Series

Dr. Jennifer Herdt, the Gilbert L. Stark professor of Christian Ethics and associate dean of faculty affairs at Yale University Divinity School, will discuss human virtues and artificial intelligence during the Charles Franklin Finch Lecture Series on March 10 at 4:30 p.m. at High Point University’s Francis Auditorium in Phillips Hall 120.

HIGH POINT, N.C., March 7, 2025 – High Point University’s Department of Religion and Philosophy will host the Charles Franklin Finch Lecture Series featuring Dr. Jennifer Herdt, the Gilbert L. Stark professor of Christian Ethics and associate dean of faculty affairs at the Yale University Divinity School.

Herdt will present this year’s lecture theme, “Human Virtues for a World of AI,” on Monday, March 10, at 4:30 p.m. in the Francis Auditorium in Phillips Hall 120. The event is free and open to the public.

“We are excited to welcome Dr. Jennifer Herdt,” said Dr. Christopher Franks, chair of the Department of Religion and Philosophy. “Dr. Herdt is the former president of the Society of Christian Ethics and a renowned expert on virtue in Western thought. With artificial intelligence becoming more and more inescapable in our daily lives, Dr. Herdt brings the riches of theology and philosophy to bear on what it means to be human.”

The Charles Franklin Finch Lecture Series is an annual endowed lectureship that dates to 1960. The purpose of the series is to foster dialogue and to deepen understanding regarding issues of importance to communities of faith.
