How you used Career & Professional Development: “The Career and Professional Development Office helped me prepare myself as well as my resume for my first internship with Eliassen group. I’ve pursued constant resume feedback and internship preparation. Having this feedback and help I felt so much more secure in the internship application process.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Larry Quinn, the Director of the Professional Selling Program and Chair of the Department of Sales. Professor Quinn still encourages me in my career, because he understands the challenges first hand at pursuing a career in sales. Professor Quinn continues to help me achieve my sales goals as I’ve checked in with him post-grad to navigate the current job market.”
Most impactful moment at HPU: “My most impactful moment has been the duration of my senior year. Understanding the value of professor mentorships and relationships has helped me understand the importance of finding support in any stage of life but especially in the career of study I wanted to go into.”
Did any portion of your job interview process include a dining component? If so, did you feel HPU prepared you for this type of setting? “My first day on the job we did have a lunch meeting to introduce our team. I feel like having a fine dining experience at HPU has helped me prepare to engage in conversation and be focused on who I am having my meal with as well as proper etiquette.”
How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “HPU has allowed me to engage with current employers on the market as well as learn from leaders in different industries. As well as offer career and professional development services. Taking advantage of all of these opportunities combined has contributed to my success and confidence when entering the job market.”
What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “HPU has taught me to take the initiative for my future by utilizing the tools I have at hand to advance my skills and confidence. Whether that be by presenting in class or attending career fairs, being able to build on public speaking and my confidence has helped me become comfortable in the world of corporate sales.”
What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “I value my close friends and mentors that I have been given at HPU. It really is a school that feels like a family. I check in regularly with professors who continue to support my career even past my studies. I get to work with previous students who make my current work environment still feel like home. HPU has instilled the value of mentorship that motivates me to the goal of becoming a mentor myself one day.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Take every advantage HPU offers to stand out and get ahead of your career ahead of you. Choose to put yourself out of your comfort zone by attending events like the career fair to build your confidence in new settings.”
