Here’s a quick glimpse at one of many impressive outcomes HPU graduates achieve.
Name: Olivia Krumpe, Class of 2024
Hometown: Hilliard, Ohio
Major: Social Media & Digital Communication; double minor in Pop Culture & Media Production and Event Management
Post-graduation plans: Olivia started her career in Washington, D.C. as a social media coordinator for Monumental Sports & Entertainment. As a social media coordinator, she manages the social media channels for four venues under Monumental Sports, most notably Capital One Arena, to promote events from their announcement through the event. In addition, Olivia strategizes and creates content to engage and grow the accounts’ audiences and assist her team with fan activations, artist gifts and other marketing initiatives.
How HPU helped you get there: “HPU’s curriculum in the Nido Qubein School of Communication helped me get where I am now because I was able to take courses that taught the broad knowledge and skills that could be applied to any industry while also providing opportunities to tailor projects or take specific classes that pertained specifically to what I wanted to do. I’d always known I wanted to work in sports or entertainment, and because of the freedom the professors gave us, I was able to learn and practice skills that directly correlated with my professional goals.”
Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU was Dr. Wiitala in the Event Management program. I didn’t join event management until the end of my junior year, so I was one of the oldest students in the intro classes, but Dr. Wii welcomed me to the program with open arms. Her event marketing class opened my eyes to new ways I could apply my social media background, and now, I have turned that into my career. She recommended me for one of my internships, and even after graduation, while I was still job hunting, she continued to send me opportunities that she knew fit my skills and career goals. But truly, all of the professors in the School of Communication were so fantastic and I credit them all for the success I have found. Because of my major and minors, I was lucky enough to take classes in almost every program in the Communication school with so many different professors who were all so dedicated and knowledgeable.”
How you used Career & Professional Development: “I went to the Office of Career and Professional Development for help on my first resume and cover letter when I began applying for internships. The initial template I created with them helped me get several internships.”
Advice for underclassmen: “Be open to new job opportunities and places you didn’t initially consider for yourself.”
