Name: Ryan Polidoro, Class of 2024

Hometown: Long Island, New York

Major: Marketing; minor in Event Management

Post-graduation plans: Ryan is heading to New York to start his career as an Alumni Relations and Special Events Associate for Columbia University. As an Alumni Relations and Special Events Associate, he is tasked to support the Columbia Law School Development and Alumni Relations efforts through the planning and execution of high-level events and marketing outreach. Ryan will be working with a team to engage a professional alumni community of over 30,000 globally through unique engagement and marketing efforts, including social media outreach, events both hybrid and in-person and through a unique gifting program.

How HPU helped you get there: “Experiential Learning opportunities like student employment and leadership opportunities through clubs and organizations prepared me for a career in Event Management and Higher Education. Without these opportunities, I wouldn’t be the confident and decisive leader I am today.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “Working on the University Events team for three academic years provided me with numerous opportunities to hone my skill set through the execution of numerous large-scale events, including concerts, convocations, Family Weekends, Move-In and graduations. Walking across the stage at my graduation and getting the opportunity to thank my mentors for all the opportunities they opened to me was a heartfelt, full-circle moment.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “Flexibility and Coach-ability are among the most important of the skills that I developed during my time at HPU. Thanks to my involvement on campus, I was constantly learning new skills and having to manage projects simultaneously; these are the skills that allowed me to thrive as a professional event manager.”

Advice for underclassmen: “Don’t just sit back and wait for opportunities to be handed to you, reach out to those around you, and make it happen. Use the abundance of resources that are at your disposal to create opportunities for you to succeed.”
