HIGH POINT, N.C., April 7, 2025 – High Point University invites the community to experience “The Splendor of Orchids: A Universe of Color” and enjoy a rare opportunity to see award-winning orchids up close during this free event over the Mother’s Day weekend.
HPU will host this nationally accredited and judged show by the Triad Orchid Society for a second consecutive year on May 9-11. This vibrant exhibition in the Wanek School of Natural Sciences lobby will feature stunning displays from East Coast orchid societies, showcasing the dazzling diversity of one of the largest plant families on Earth — with more than 25,000 species.
Free and open to the public, hours for “The Splendor of Orchids” are 1-5 p.m. on Friday, May 9; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 10; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 11.

“Orchids have long captivated even casual plant enthusiasts with their remarkable adaptations, intricate relationships with insects, and, of course, their out-of-this-world blooms,” said Dr. Jason Lattier, director of the Caine Conservatory. “We’re excited to invite the public into the Wanek School of Natural Sciences — the heart of our campus STEM community — to experience the splendor of orchids.”
Whether you’re an orchid enthusiast, a casual admirer or looking for a fun and educational outing over Mother’s Day Weekend, consider attending this show. In addition to elaborate orchid displays and stunning arrangements from orchid societies, the event will include:
- Orchid workshops – learn the essentials of potting, mounting and caring for orchids.
- Vendor marketplace – shop for orchids, pots and growing supplies to start or expand your collection.
- Self-guided tours at the Caine Conservatory – explore the lush, tropical collection inside the conservatory.
Children’s activities include orchid-themed coloring and a story time featuring “The Ghost Orchid.” Families also can enjoy the following free shows at the Culp Planetarium – “Explore Habitat Earth,” “Imagine the Moon” and “Black Holes: The Other Side of Infinity.”

The complimentary event is presented by The Triad Orchid Society, the Caine Conservatory, the Culp Planetarium, the Mariana H. Qubein Arboretum and Botanical Gardens at HPU, and the Wanek School of Natural Sciences. For the latest updates and full schedule, visit the Caine Conservatory website.
