How HPU helped you get there: “My peers helped me connect with my former manager at the HPU Career fair for my first internship at Volvo, which opened the door to long-term opportunities with the company. My professors and the CPD office provided the guidance, tools, and confidence I needed to pursue a career at Volvo and continue working toward my professional goals.”

How you used the Career and Professional Development: “I met with the Office of Career and Professional Development to review my resume and used the Comprehensive Career Guide to help me write it as well. I also used VMock to further tailor my Resume.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “My most impactful mentor at HPU is Dr. Claire McCullough, Professor and Chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering. As a Woman Engineer, she is a true inspiration to me, having overcome numerous obstacles throughout her career. Her resilience and dedication motivate me to work hard and strive for excellence. Beyond her professional achievements, Dr. McCullough has also offered me invaluable words of encouragement during times when I struggled academically, helping me to stay focused and persevere. I aspire to embody her strength, determination, and leadership as I continue to grow in my own career.”

Most impactful moment at HPU: “There is not one particular moment I can pinpoint, but my experience as a Bonner Leader has been transformative. I have found my passion for STEM education and I have a strong desire to make a difference in the world. Through my Social Innovation minor, a requirement of the Bonner Program, I have gained the tools and knowledge I need to be the change I want to see in the world.”

How has HPU’s inspiring environment contributed to your success? “Every day, I am surrounded by incredible people who have had amazing experiences. Whether it’s the talented women of HPU’s all-female A Cappella group, the Petal Points, or the individuals I meet through our nonprofit partner organizations, I’m constantly inspired by those around me. Their drive, passion and dedication motivate me to push myself further, encouraging me to embrace new opportunities and make a positive impact in my own community. This inspiring environment has played a key role in shaping my mindset and helping me achieve success.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “Hands-On Technical Skills, Communication Skills, Collaboration, leadership and public speaking “

Advice for underclassmen: “My advice for underclassmen is to lean on your connections and focus on developing essential life skills. While academic performance is important, college is more about the relationships you build and the experiences you gain. These connections will open doors to opportunities and help you navigate the challenges you’ll face after graduation. Make the most of every experience, and remember that the skills you develop outside the classroom are just as valuable as those you learn in it.”
