Major: Data Analytics and Statistics; minor in Business Administration

Internship plans: Jess is interning in Collegeville, Pennsylvania this summer under Pfizer’s Research and Development team. Pfizer Research & Development teams deliver medical care by delivering breakthrough therapies and vaccines faster with un compromised quality. As an intern, her responsibilities consists of both laboratory and non-laboratory experiences. 

How HPU helped you get there: “High Point University has given me the tools, confidence and mindset to pursue my goals with intention. The supportive community and hands-on experiences both in and out of the classroom helped me grow as a leader and problem-solver. My data analytics course has challenged me to think critically while leadership roles taught me how to communicate advocate, and lead with empathy. HPU has prepared me for not just a career, but for a purpose-driven life.”

Most impactful mentor at HPU: “Pujita Sapra — Assistant Professor of Data Analytics and Statistics, as well as my academic advisor, is my most impactful mentor at HPU because she’s always willing to help and go out of her way to make sure I have the support and guidance I need. She pushes me to reach my full potential and encourages me to take on opportunities that challenge and grow me. Her belief in me has made a huge difference in both my confidence and success.”

How you used Career & Professional Development: “David Smith from the Office of Career & Professional Development helped me perfect my resume and train me to ace my interview. With his help, I was able to successfully receive an internship offer and I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with him.”

What are the life skills HPU helped you develop that prepared you for long-term success? “The classes geared towards life skills helped me learn about interpersonal connection and communication to use in the real world.”

What are the values and virtues HPU’s campus helped you develop that you’ll take with you after graduation? “High Point University has helped me grow into a value-driven leader by teaching me the importance of resilience, empathy and purpose. In my role as vice president of harm reduction in my sorority, I’ve learned how to advocate for others and lead with compassion. Each piece is focused on excellence and professional development, which pushed me to stay disciplined and take my goal seriously. I’ll carry these lessons with me long after graduation.”

Advice for underclassmen: “My advice for underclassmen is to get involved early and take advantage of every opportunity HPU offers. Build strong relationships with your professors and mentors because they truly want to see you succeed. Don’t be afraid to step into leadership roles or try something new, even if it’s outside of your comfort zone. The more you invest in your growth now, the more prepared and confident you’ll be after graduation.”
